NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A man was injured in a shooting in New Haven Wednesday morning.

Police say they were dispatched to Kensington Street between Edgewood Street and Chapel Street just after 10:30 a.m. to the report of a shooting. Officers were told that a man leaning against a car began shooting.

According to police, there’s also ballistic evidence that suggests the street-side shooter was in a firefight with at least one other person and that they were shooting from in between two houses.

The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Jaray Turner. He suffered a non-threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

Police say the suspect is a black male who was dressed all in dark colored or black clothing and was last seen running toward Edgewood Avenue

Kensington Street is closed off with crime scene tape at this time. The shooting remains under investigation.
