Driver Survives Dramatic Rollover, Says ‘It’s a Miracle’ He’s Alive

(ABC News) — Good Samaritans in DeLand, Florida, rushed into action Sunday to rescue a man whose out-of-control car flipped over several times before coming to a stop with smoke billowing from the wreckage.

The terrifying crash was captured on surveillance video, which shows the moment the car goes out of control and flips at least eight times, leaving behind a trail of debris. Bystanders and witnesses rushed over to help the driver.

Working together, they used their combined strength to turn the flipped car back over and pull the driver out through the sunroof. Emergency crews airlifted the driver to a nearby hospital.

43-year-old Joe Myers survived the crash and said he’s “shocked” to be alive.

“After seeing the video I am shocked I am even here. I am grateful,” Myers told ABC News from his hospital room.

Myers did not suffer any broken bones, only small scrapes and lacerations. He attributes his survival to the moments immediately following the crash, when those good Samaritans jumped into action to save him.

“They pulled me out from the sunroof, the doors were welded shut and they had to cut me out of my seat belt,” Myers said. “It’s a miracle I’m even here. I’m thankful for those people for saving me.”

Myers and his family reunited with his rescuers in the hospital, where he was to express his gratitude to them for saving his life.

“I was so thankful when I saw him, and when I looked back at the video I thought, God’s got to have a plan for you Joey,” said Myers’s mother, Sondra Davis.
