I-84 east back open in Waterbury after fatal crash

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Commuters are experiencing heavier than normal delays on Interstate 84 eastbound following a fatal accident early Friday morning near Waterbury.

According to Connecticut State Police, the crash occurred just before 2:45a.m. on I-84 eastbound between exits 20 and 21. Troopers say only the two drivers were involved.

State Police told News 8 that one driver has died, while the other driver was not injured. Troopers have not yet released the identities of either driver.

The right and center lanes were closed for more than four hours while the crash was cleared and police began their initial investigation.

Just after 6:45 a.m., all lanes of Interstate 84 were reopened.

The cause of the accident is still unknown, police are investigating.
