More than 100 firearms collected at New Haven buyback

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven police collected more than 100 guns at a gun buyback event on Saturday.

The event was held at the Police Academy Training Center on Saturday. New Haven Police Department Media Liaison David Hartman says they collected 127 firearms; 85 handguns, 38 long-guns and four assault weapons.

People who turned in guns were given gift cards. The gift card amount varied depending on the type of gun that was turned in.

Police say the event helps keep the community safe and guns out of the wrong hands.
