New Haven Police investigating Mansfield Street shooting

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A Tuesday morning shooting in New Haven sent a 47-year-old man to the hospital.

Officers responded to a reported shooting in the area of Mansfield and Division Streets just after 10:00 a.m. Upon arrival officers located the victim, identified as Christopher Motzer of Guilford, suffering from a gunshot wound to his right ankle.

Motzer told officers that he had been beaten and his cell-phone was taken during the encounter. He described his assailant as a black man in his late thirties to early forties. The suspect had a muscular build and was armed with a silver revolver.

Police say the suspect had an accomplice and they fled the area in a newer white model Chevrolet with New York plates. Witnesses told police the two suspects wore white t-shirts and were seen dragging Motzer from his vehicle.

Motzer was treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital. His injury is not considered to be life-threatening.
