Sen. Blumenthal pushes for stamp to honor Gold Star families

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump broke a major American political and societal taboo over the weekend when he engaged in an emotionally-charged feud with Khizr and Ghazala Khan, the bereaved parents of a decorated Muslim Army captain killed by a suicide bomber in Iraq. He further stoked outrage by implying Ghazala Khan did not speak while standing alongside her husband at last week's Democratic convention because they are Muslim. (AP Photo/J. (WTNH) — After Donald Trump got into a controversial spat with a Muslim Gold Star family, who lost a son in combat, Senator Richard Blumenthal is getting involved.

Blumenthal says he has written a letter to the Post Master General pushing for the post office to issue a stamp in honor of Gold Star families.

“These Gold Star mothers and these families deserve this recognition and respect, and given reverence for the sacrifice they’ve made,” said Blumenthal.

Blumenthal says if the stamps generate income, that money should go to help Gold Star families.
