State police arrest convicted felon on gun charge

Bridgeport, Conn. (WTNH)- State police working with members of the Bridgeport Police department have arrested a convicted felon on both narcotics and firearms related charges. Authorities say they began their investigation following 26 yer old Raul Zayas of Bridgeport’s involvment in recent shooting in Bridgeport.

As part of that investigation, detectives developed information indicating that Zayas had a firearm and was keeping it at his residence on Capitol Avenue. Later that same day, Zayas attempted to drive away as detectives approached the car he was driving. Authorities say Zayas intentionally struck a police vehicle that was attempting to stop his escape.

There were no injuries. Zayas  was holding 2-point eight grams of crack cocaine and more than 540 dollars in cash when he surrended to authorities. Detectives later discovered a laded .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his bedroom.
