MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Milford Firefighters put out a fire in a home at 45 Bayshore Drive Extension just after noon today.

Dispatch received a 911 call at 12:25 p.m. from an alarm monitoring company, reporting an activated fire alarm. Firefighters from Quint 5 arrived on scene to find the homeowner reporting a moderate smoke condition on the second floor. A hose-line was advanced into the home where a fire was found in the second floor bedroom. Firefighters extinguished the small blaze rapidly and confined the flames to the bedroom. Smoke damage did extend throughout the majority of the single family structure.

The Fire Department says the homeowner made an attempt to extinguish the fire before fire crews arrived. He was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and exposure by Milford Fire Paramedics.

Milford’s Fire Marshal’s division is investigating and a cause is yet to be determined.

Milford FD warns that when a structure fire occurs, it is imperative to evacuate the residence and call 911 from outside of the building. Attempts to extinguish the fire should be left to properly trained and equipped fire personnel.
