GROTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Military families will find going back to school a little easier and happier this year.

Operation Homefront’s Back-to-School Brigade will hold an event to give away backpacks and other school supplies to military families, including Children of Naval Submarine Base New London.

Some of the 200 backpacks to be handed out were filled by Traveler’s Championship and Connecticare volunteers.

Those eligible for the supplies are pre-registered military families part of active-duty, junior personnel, and children enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS).

Last year, the Back-to-School Brigade donated over 25,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to military children across the country.

The event will take place at the Balfour Beatty Communities (BBC) Community Center in Groton Wednesday morning.
