Everything you need to know about tax-free week!

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) It’s tax-free week in Connecticut which kicks off a seven-day stretch when the state won’t charge you sales tax.

It’s a good chance to pick up some things you need and for your kids, who are about to go back to school but there are some things you need to know before you head out to save.

Tax free week runs through Saturday. The important figure to remember is $100. Many items under $100 are tax-free, anything over $100 is not.

Some things you can get this week tax free include jeans, shirts, some pairs of shoes and rain jackets. You can get those tax-free items in the store, online or over the phone if a retailer participates.

Here are some of the things that are not tax free no matter how much it costs. Purses, wallets, jewelry and sports helmets or uniforms.

A couple of important notes: If a qualifying item is over $100 dollars and you have a coupon to bring it under $100 it will be tax free and if an item is usually over $100 but is on sale for under $100 it will be tax free, as well.

Happy shopping and saving!
