NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH)– A car crash led to power lines in the road in a New London neighborhood early Sunday morning.

Police say officers and rescue crews responded to the area of 239 Jefferson Avenue to the report of a motor vehicle that struck a utility pole around 3 a.m. The driver was not injured and police say drugs and alcohol were ruled out as possible contributing factors to the crash.

The utility pole was badly damaged in the accident and wires came down and across the roadway in three locations on Colman Street. An Eversource crew responded to the scene to secure the power and repair the damage.

Colman Street, between Jefferson Avenue and Garfield Avenue, was closed for several hours while the Eversource crew completed the repairs.

The accident remains under investigation.
