NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — You are likely figuring out by now how expensive back-to-school can be. Parents are expected to spend hundreds of dollars, even more than last year! The National Retail Federation predicts back to school spending to reach $75.8 billion this year.
You can keep it a little lower by saving yourself some money. Experts say buy a little at a time. Some retailers rotate through their deals each week.
If rebates are offered get them. Cash in on free money.
Buy clothes later. Some of the best deals happen after the first day of school.
Scour some of those gift card sites. You can often get cards at five to ten percent off.
Not buying themed items could make supplies last longer.
For example, if you buy something with their favorite movie character on it, your child may move on to another favorite character in a few months.
Of course, take advantage of tax-free weeks like what’s going on right now in Connecticut. It runs through Saturday.
