Babysitter charged after 2 year old found alone riding a tricycle

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WNTH)  –  A babysitter has been arrested after a 2 year old in her care was found riding a tricycle alone along a Willimantic street this morning.

Willimantic Police charged 60 year old Maria Torres of 39 Gem Drive in Willimantic with risk of injury to a minor.

According to police, a concerned resident notice the boy riding his tricycle in Gem Drive at 8:45 a.m. and flagged down a passing police officer who picked up the boy and brought him to the police department.   The Connecticut Department of Children and Families was also notified.

Torres went to the police department about 40 minutes after the child was found when she realized the child was missing when she got out of the shower.   The child and his mother were reunited around 9:45 a.m.
