News 8’s Ryan Kristafer plays ball with high school coach

CROMWELL, Conn. (WTNH)– With kids going back to school it’s an important reminder that teachers help us learn so much in the classroom. But there are also valuable lessons on the field. Coaches help instill so many life lessons.

I’d like to share some stories with my high school baseball coach (from Cromwell High School): Coach Pappariella! On and off the field he instilled that sense of hard work for me. You’re going to put in the extra work whether you like it or not, but you’re going to come out a stronger person. And I’m really appreciative of that.

“He (Ryan) was the first senior class my first year as a head coach at Cromwell. And Ryan was one of those guys that bought into it, established a culture of hard work,” said Coach “Papp.”

As a player, the ball field was one place I remember I could go to, no matter what’s going on in your life… there’s always baseball. I took it very seriously… sort of:

Ryan was kind of quirky, kind of kind of a different guy. He was kind of goofy and himself but then when he was on the mound, he really locked in.”

Since then, Coach Papp has helped lead Cromwell High to a state championship.

It should’ve been my year, but that’s a whole other can of worms. Thanks to all of the coaches out there!
