NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — It’s baby safety week and for many moms, they’re putting more than just a car seat in their vehicle to keep their youngest family members safe without spending a lot of money.
“You know you’re looking at this mirror, it’s perfect, it’s $20 this is an item we see applied to registries all the time. Year in and out it’s a family favorite. So you see parents registering for these basic items, that you can find for about $21 or less,” said Babies “R” Us Spokeswoman Adrienne O’Hara.
Mirrors to keep an eye on your little one in the car, cameras and a safety kit for your home. For car accessories, the same precautions need to be taken as you would a car seat.
“These could become projectile in an accident, you want to look for items that have been crash-tested and these two items have,” O’Hara said.
Crash-tested and shatter-proof! Checking the lifespan on all child safety products is key. O’Hara says car seats 8 years or older need to be replaced. They also need to be properly installed.
“Where in New Haven can I go to the local police department or another location where they’ll do car seat checks and installations,” she suggests you ask.
Babies “R” Us is also offering a discount right now to parents on car seats when you trade in an old one. It’s important to register safety items online so if there is a recall, the manufacturer will notify you.
