Police: 91-year-old robbed in North Haven, suspect arrested

NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Police have arrested a 21-year-old New Haven man following a robbery of an elderly male in North Haven on Wednesday.

According to police, officers responding to the parking lot of Eaton Place condominiums at 4:30 p.m. for a report of a street robbery. Police say their investigation discovered that a Hispanic man approached the 91-year-old resident of the apartment building and began talking to him. The elderly man tried to walk away, but the suspect pushed him and stole his wallet, according to police.

The suspect took off before police arrived on scene, but was found a short time later. The suspect, Jose Vazquez, was taken into custody by North Haven Police. He was charged with robbery and larceny. Vazquez was held on a $10,000 bond and arraigned in Meriden Superior Court.
