Public hearing held in North Branford on propane tank site

NORTH BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Dozens of North Branford residents spoke out Thursday night about a controversial plan to build a propane tank facility in town.

The public hearing was held at North Branford High School.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection hosted the event to discuss whether the proposed facility on Ciro Road would meet the state’s wetlands regulations.

Residents who spoke to News 8 say they are against the project all together.

“At this point we’re disgusted with it. It should’ve never come about in the beginning. It was ram-routed down the Planning and Zoning’s throat,” said Bob Constantinople.

“Our major concern is over safety. This is a 60,000 gallon propane facility. In the event of an accident, it’d be catastrophic. Fatalities,” added Chris Kranick.

JJ Sullivan is the propane company looking to move into that site.

Town officials, JJ Sullivan, and those who oppose the plan will present their cases to state officials in Hartford on September 15th.
