Three month old pronounced dead after crash Saturday afternoon

PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — One infant was killed in a car crash Saturday afternoon when a tractor trailer hit a car traveling in the right lane.

Police said three month old Ciera Dube was in the back of a vehicle when it was hit on I-395 near exit 29.

A tractor trailer hit the rear of a passenger vehicle that was driven by 25-year-old Erica Bedard. The vehicle was forced into the shoulder portion of the highway where it came to a stop.

The tractor trailer operated by 44-year-old Edward Stratton, continued to the right, left the road and ended up down an embankment where it came to a stop in a wooded area.

Traffic was re-routed for seven hours while the accident was being investigated.

Bedard and Dube were both transported to the William Backus Emergency Center and Dube pronounced dead shortly after. Bedard was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was released.

The accident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Teft at 860-779-4900.
