(WTNH) — Americares Free Clinics and Walgreens are partnering up to provide flu shots for those who are uninsured.

Those flu shots will be available at no cost during the month of October at various Americares Free Clinics in Danbury, Norwalk, Stamford and Bridgeport. Eligible Connecticut residents must be over the age of 18 to receive the shot. Participants cannot have any health insurance, including Medicaid.

“The flu is miserable for everyone, but it can be even more of an issue for those who have to miss work as a result,” said Americares Free Clinics Executive Director Karen Gottlieb. “Together with Walgreens, we are helping more Connecticut residents and communities stay healthy this winter.”

The immunizations will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis by a Walgreens pharmacist.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates flu vaccines prevented approximately 1.9 million flu-related illnesses and 966,000 flu-related medical visits in the 2014-2015 flu season.
