Police looking for man who fled fatal crash in East Haven

UPDATE: Police have identified the fatal accident victim as 27-year-old Gaitana Girgenti.

EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — One person is dead after a serious accident on Frontage Road in East Haven.

According to East Haven Public Information Officer Lieutenant Joseph Murgo, a single car crashed into a pole on Frontage Road on the I-95 Southbound Exit 51 off-ramp. Police say one person was killed and another was seriously injured and is at the hospital. Police know the identity of the deceased and injured, but are not releasing it at this time.

Police tell News 8 there was a third person on scene when officers arrived, but he fled on foot. The man is described as a black male, late teens or early 20s, and was wearing blue shorts with a black stripe, no shirt and blue sneakers at the time. He fled past the Home Depot and was last seen in the wooded area between the Dunkin Donuts and CarMax.

Police say they do not know who the driver was at this time and they do not know if the car was stolen or not.
