State police investigate officer involved shooting in Stratford

STRATFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– State police are investigating an officer involved shooting at a Stratford beach Wednesday morning.

Police say at around 4:45 a.m., Stratford officers responded to the Lordship section by Russian Beach for reports of a man with a gun.

Officers found the man with a handgun and ordered him to drop the gun. Stratford police say the man then advanced toward the officers and fired a least one round towards them.

Police then fired at least one round, striking the man in the arm. Neither officer was hurt.

First aid was given to the man on the scene before he was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for an evaluation. He is listed in stable condition, according to police.

State police assumed the investigation around 6:30 a.m. The man involved has not yet been identified by police.

Through their preliminary investigation, officers believe this was an isolated incident. There is no threat or danger to the public.
