Stepcraft Inc. making all-in-one creation systems out of Torrington

TORRINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — A start-up business that’s spurring other businesses.

Stepcraft, Incorporated literally dropped out of the sky for Erick Royer. He was doing something completely different, writing for a hobby magazine, when the German-originated machine company found him. Now, he’s hired his six employees, including his right-hand man, Dan Immohr.

The machines, of which there are five different models, allow operators to mill, carve, woodwork, engrave, 3D print, and on and on. Anything you can think of.

“It was started in 2013 by two partners in Germany and they have an idea to create a machine that would allow the average person to pretty much make anything they wanted so they developed this machine and they started selling it and in 2014, they came to the United States with hopes setting up a sales office here. So they went to Chicago, they set up an office, the only thing they needed was an employee. They flew from Chicago to Connecticut and they came to visit me at a magazine that I was working at, just out of the blue. They were giving us a machine to write about,” said Royer.

Royer says the mayor is thrilled that more jobs are being created in town. By this time next year, the hope is that the number of employees will be doubled.
