BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Branford man has been arrested for a home invasion around lunchtime on Thursday, all thanks to a police K-9 who tracked down the suspect at a nearby motel.
According to officials, police responded to a home on Windmill Hill Road, just after 12:30 p.m., when a homeowner called saying someone was inside her home. The intruder ran off, heading toward Route 1, police said.
Officer Luigi Amasino and his K-9 Joker, led police to a nearby motel where they searched the registry for occupied rooms.
Officers began interviewing 30 year-old Michael Bianchi, who police were familiar with as a possible suspect. K-9 Joker and Officer Amasino retraced the track to confirm that Bianchi was the person who led Joke from the home to the motel.
“Based on the ‘positively hit’ by Joker and the interview with our Officers, Bianchi was arrested and taken into custody,” police said.
Bianchi was charged with third degree burglary and third degree criminal mischief. He’s expected to appear in New Haven Court Friday morning.
