BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – Today we’re Cruisin’ Connecticut, to Branford to spotlight “Feed Branford Kids.”
The Connecticut Food Bank established that 24% of Branford school kids are eligible for food assistance at school. It is observed that a substantial number of these kids go to school Mondays extremely hungry due to a lack of food at home over the weekends.
The organization has been around for three years, and provides weekend breakfasts, lunches and snacks for elementary school students in Branford.
Every Wednesday morning, the group of women, dubbed: “The Sexy Senior Packers” gets together to pack, organize and deliver meals to the schools. Many of them went to high school together, and see it as a fun get-together, but most importantly a way to give back to the community.
I had no idea that there was such a need. If one child is hungry, that’s one too many.
When the group started three years ago, they only delivered seven backpacks a week. Today, they deliver 100 every week.
