(WTNH) — The makers of the GE Profile clothes washer has announced a recall of the machine after dozens of reports of fire, including three that caused over $100,000 in property damage.
The recall involves three models of GE Profile’s high-efficiency top-loading clothes washers. The washers come in gold, gray and white. “GE Profile” is printed on the front of the washers.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports an electrical component can overheat, causing a fire hazard.
The recall affects models WPGT9350, WPGT9360 and WPGT9150. The washers were sold at Best Buy, Lowe’s, Sears, the Home Depot and several other stores across the country between June 2003 and October 2011.
Consumers are asked to immediately unplug and stop using the recalled washers and contact GE Appliances for a free repair.
