Stratford Police release more info on officer involved shooting

STRATFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – Stratford Police have identified the man shot by a Stratford officer early Wednesday morning. On September 14 around 4:45 a.m. police got a call about a man with a handgun near Russian Beach on Park Boulevard. Officers ordered the man to drop the gun. They say he didn’t and walked toward the officers, firing at least one round.

State Police say two Stratford officers fired at least one round each. At least one bullet hit the suspect, who has now been identified as Timothy Johnson, 40, of Stratford. Johnson is still in Bridgeport Hospital.

Stratford Police have also identified the officers involved in the shooting as Officer Brian McCarthy, 52, and Officer Louis Arbelo, 25. McCarthy has been on the force for 26 years, Arbelo for two. Both officers are on paid administrative leave per Stratford Police Department Policy.
