NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Friday evening the New Haven Grand Prix hits the Green.
The event will shutdown city streets and bring out thousands of people.

Friday night bicycles are taking over the Downtown New Haven area. It’s been described as Nascar on bikes. This is the second annual grand prix. If it is anything like last year’s, New Haven is in for quite a party.
The main events are the bike races for kids, adults and the professionals. The pros will reach speeds of 30 miles an hour as they zip around New Haven’s one mile course, 35 times.

There’s also prize money up for grabs. The total prize for the men’s professional races will be $5,000.
Director of New Haven Transport, Doug Hausladen says that it’s also going a lot of food.
“We’re going to have the new haven apizza feast. It’s going to be closing down on college street and an open street party family friends fun We’re going to have a beer garden outside, a lot of food trucks celebrating all that New Haven has to offer.”
The party begins at 4:00 p.m. with music, events, family fun and the races. Roads will start to shut down around lunch time.

The juniors race starts at 5:45 p.m. and the professional race will be at 8:30 p.m.
