1 person killed in Route 44 New Hartford accident

NEW HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Route 44 in New Hartford is closed after two people were struck by a car.

The Department of Transportation says the motor-vehicle accident occurred around 9:15 a.m.

The accident happened at 495 Main Street in New Hartford. Police confirm that Lifestar transported the victims to Charlotte-Hungerford Hospital in Torrington.

A preliminary investigation by Connecticut State Police determined a 2002 Honda Civic, driven by 31-year-old Shivan Desai, traveled off the roadway and onto the sidewalk where is struck two people.

Trooper Kelly Grant confirms that one person has died as a result of the accident. The victim has been identified as 69-year-old William Pellum. The second person, 67-year-old Sybil Pellum is continuing to receive treatment at Hartford Hospital.
