Car hits, seriously injures woman crossing road in Manchester

MANCHESTER, Conn. (WTNH)– A woman was seriously injured after being struck by a car while crossing an intersection in Manchester Tuesday morning.

Police say that officers responded to a collision at the intersection of Hartford Road and Elm Street around 6 a.m. A preliminary investigation revealed that a pedestrian crossing Hartford Road was struck by a car traveling westbound.

The pedestrian, identified as 28-year-old Emily Hernandez, of Manchester, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Hartford Hospital by ambulance. She is stable condition at this time.

The driver, identified as 56-year-old Michael Swift, also of Manchester, was not injured and is cooperating with police.

The road was closed earlier for the investigation but has since reopened. Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who has any additional information to contact them at 860-645-5560.
