Coast Guard: Search for 2 missing boaters continues

BOSTON (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard says it is searching the waters south of Long Island, New York, for two boaters reported missing off the coast of Rhode Island.

The Coast Guard said Tuesday the search for 54-year-old Linda Carman and her son, 22-year-old Nathan Carman, of Middletown, Connecticut, had shifted to an approximately 11,000-square-mile area about 115 miles south of Montauk, New York.

The Coast Guard was informed Sunday that the pair failed to return from an offshore fishing trip near Block Island, about 13 miles south of mainland Rhode Island. They departed from Point Judith Saturday evening in a 32-foot center console boat.

The Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England, in Boston, says Coast Guard assets from New York, Maine, Massachusetts, North Carolina and others are assisting in the search.
