Police make arrest in August Hamden shooting

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Hamden police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting on Dixwell Avenue that happened back in August.

According to police, officers responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Morse Street after a report of multiple gunshot victims shortly after midnight on August 20th. They were able to locate four gunshot victims inside the Highwood Bar and Grill, located at 903 Dixwell Avenue.

The victims were treated at the scene by Hamden firefighters. Three of the victims were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the victims were clustered together near a bench at the bar, and the shooter left the scene in a car. After the initial investigation was complete, police put out an arrest warrant for 44-year-old Heshimu Barker.

Barker was arrested on September 20th at his girlfriend’s residence in Northford. He is being charged with four counts of assault in the first degree, criminal possession of a firearm, and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Barker is being held on $500,000 bond. He’s scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court on October 4th.
