NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Most credit cards can meet your basic borrowing needs but, if you do a little research, you may be able to find one that works for you with some great perks along the way. The good news is, the research has been done for you. Money.com and NerdWallet analyzed popular credit cards right now and rated them, here’s a look at some of the highlights.

For college students, they picked the Northwest Federal Credit Union as the best card if you haven’t established credit yet because it has a low interest rate and minimal fees. It’s also good for students because there’s a one thousand dollar spending cap which limits the damage you can do. They like the BankAmericard Cash Rewards for students who have already built credit because there’s a sign-on bonus, cash-back opportunities and no annual fee.

For travelers, if you’re looking to maximize your points, the Chase Sapphire Preferred card offers the best opportunities to build points from all over. A caveat is there’s a high interest rate with no grace period so you really can’t finance trips. They picked the BankAmericard Travel Rewards for overseas travelers on a budget and the Barclaycard arrival plus world elite for frequent fliers.

One of their favorites for cashback is the Citi Double Cash Card because you get 2% back on everything you buy. They also looked at which gives the best hotel rewards and the most secured credit cards.
