UConn to host Cardboard Boat Race at Avery Point Campus

Groton

GROTON, Conn. (WTNH) – An annual Cardboard Boat Race is scheduled for Thursday at UConn’s Avery Point Campus.

The university said the Cardboard Boat Race is more than just a competition against other teams and a race against soggy cardboard staying together.

It is also a day to integrate academics and fun into one outreach event.

The design of the boats also is part of the event as students from UConn physics, engineering, and maritime studies departments use their class to design a seaworthy vessel that will last the longest.

15 Early College Experience classes from Connecticut high schools will be participating in this year’s race.
