Woman critically injured in Willimantic stabbing

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WTNH) — Police have arrested a Willimantic man and charged him with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a woman during a domestic dispute.

Willimantic Police were called to the scene at 10:50 Saturday night. Upon arrival, officers discovered the female victim in the driveway suffering from multiple stab wounds to her back. She was taken to Windham Hospital before she was airlifted to Hartford Hospital where she is in critical condition, according to police.

Police arrested the suspect, 53-year-old Angel Mendez Alvarez on scene. Alvarez was taken to Police Headquarters where he is being held on a $1,000,000 bond.

Alvarez faces charges of attempted murder, assault, and violation of a protective order.

He is scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on Monday.
