NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Grand Avenue in New Haven will be closed between James and East Streets, beginning Monday morning at 7 a.m. until construction is complete on October 23.

On Friday, New Haven officials announced that Grand Avenue would close for construction, “all day, every day,” until Sunday, October 23. Laurence Grotheer said that the closure will allow for safety improvements, involving an overhaul and upgrade of the Providence and Wooster Railroad crossing of Grand Avenue, just east of East Street.

The street will still be open to pedestrians and bikers, but bicyclists might be asked to walk their bike through the construction zone. All other traffic will be detoured around the area to Chapel Street.

Anyone with questions may contact New Haven’s Engineering Department at (203) 946-6417.
