WESTPORT, Conn. (WTNH)– One man is dead and another man has been arrested on DUI charges after the Westport crash that closed I-95 for hours overnight Wednesday.
Police say just before 7 p.m., 64-year-old Thomas Patrick Reynolds, of Woodbury, was traveling southbound in a MACK 600 tractor trailer truck on I-95, north of exit 17 in the right lane, when contact was made with a Mercedes E3504 that was in the center lane.
The impact caused the truck to veer to the right, strike a metal beam guardrail and then flip onto the drivers side. The truck then struck a light pole and a tree, before catching on fire.
The Mercedes, driven by 35-year-old Taylor Ramses Rival, of Stamford, also veered to the right and struck the concrete barrier of the Saugatuck River Bridge.
Reynolds was pronounced dead on the scene by fire personnel. Rival reported no injuries before he was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. He was released on $10,000 bond.
All lanes of I-95 southbound were closed for over 10 hours for the investigation but have since reopened. Troopers ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call them 203-696-2500.
