CLINTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Clinton police have arrested a man who they say was driving drunk with his children in the car when he crashed into another car head-on.
Around 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Clinton police responded to a report of a two-car, head-on crash at the intersection of Central Avenue and High Street.
Responding officers say that 46-year-old Daniel O’Brien of Guilford had crossed the yellow line and caused the accident. Police say he appeared to be very intoxicated and they found an open container of liquor in the center console cup holder and a partially consumed bottle of liquor near the driver’s seat.
Police say O’Brien’s two young children, ages two-years-old and seven months, were in the car during the accident. The children were in car seats and seemed to be uninjured, but were taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being reunited with their mother, who was not involved in the accident.
O’Brien is charged with DWI, drinking while driving, two counts of risk of injury to a minor and failure to drive in the established lane. He is being held on $10,000 bond and is set to be arraigned in court Friday. Police say Department of Children and Families was also notified about the incident.
