Overnight crash in Old Saybrook leaves 22-year-old woman dead

OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (WTNH) — A 22-year-old has died after her car went up in flames Friday night.

Old Saybrook Police say they responded to an accident at 10:41 p.m. Friday night on Middlesex Turnpike and Bokum Road. Officers say they tried pulling the woman to safety while her car was in flames. Despite their heroic efforts, the driver was pronounced dead on the scene.

The vehicle was said to be traveling north bound on Middlesex Turnpike when it struck a tree at the intersection of Bokum Road in Old Saybrook.

Police are not releasing the victim’s name pending the notification of the family.

The two officers who were on scene were transported to Middlesex Medical Center Shoreline for injuries and were later released.

This is an ongoing investigation and officials are trying to figure out what led up to the crash. If anyone witnessed the accident they should contact Old Saybrook Police at (860)-395-3142.
