Stafford Springs man pleads guilty to defrauding veterans

(WTNH) – A Stafford Springs man has pleaded guilty to defrauding U.S. veterans between March 2009 and August 2010.

John Simon, Jr., 69, of Stafford Springs, pleaded guilty before a U.S. District Judge in Hartford to one count of mail fraud and one count of structuring currency transactions.

He was arrested on a criminal complaint in May of 2013.

Simon is currently out on bond pending his sentencing.

A judge scheduled for him to be sentenced in January.

Simon faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
