Police investigate after clown spotted near Hamden school

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH)– Police are investigating after a clown was spotted near a Hamden school on Thursday morning.

Hamden Public Schools sent a letter to student’s families informing them that “before students arrived at school, it was reported to school administration that a person dressed as a clown was seen near or around the school property.”

The school says that a search was then conducted by both Hamden police and school personnel, but no suspicious people or activity were found.

As a precaution, there is currently a police presence at Bear Path School, and there will also be increased patrols at all Hamden school buildings. School officials have been informed and will remain extra vigilant.

The letter continued to read that the school has “asked staff not to alarm students about this particular incident, as news of similar incidents around the country have already caused distress to many of our children.”

The incident remains under investigation.
