The Top Five Game Room Must-Haves

ORANGE, Conn. (WTNH) — Are you struggling to get your whole family to spend time together? Why not create a place where you and your kids can go to have some fun?

“I think the game room is a perfect opportunity for families to reconnect,” said Jeff Heitmann, owner of Porch & Patio in Orange.

He put together a list of the top five game room must-haves to help your family get back to what’s really important: Family time. Number one on the list?

“I think tops on the list would have to be the actual pool table itself,” Heitmann said. “That’s usually the centerpiece. Everything usually revolves around the pool table.”

At Porch & Patio, you can find pool tables for every budget and style.

“We have many different size pool tables different styles, designs, anywhere from rustic to contemporary,” Heitmann explained.

Pick a felt color to match your room and a pool cue stick to match your personality. Number two on the list of game room must-haves? Ping pong.

“Everybody loves a game of ping pong,” Heitmann said.

For those with a pool table, Heitmann recommends a conversion top.

“It’s basically a ping pong table that goes on top of your pool table,” Heitmann said.

Or if you have the space, get a full size table that can be easily folded up for solo play. The third game room-must have?

“Air hockey is a great game,” Heitmann said. “It’s a fast-paced game. It’s a fun game. It’s a loud game.”

And it’s something all kids — even the big ones — will love. Game room must-have number four is foosball.

“A lot of kids are playing soccer these days, so they’ll get a kick out of playing a little miniature game of soccer of a table,” Heitmann said.

And foosball never goes out of style.

“You’re going to get many years of entertainment,” explained Heitmann.

Last but not least, the fifth game room must-have is a shuffle board table.

“It’s a very addicting game, and it’s very, very fun,” Heitmann said.

This isn’t your grandparents’ shuffleboard. The hands on game will provide hours of entertainment.

So now that you’ve got the list of top five game room must-haves, head to porch and patio at 363 Boston Post Rd. in Orange. For more information, visit
