Columbus Day Parade canceled in Hamden

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH)– Hamden’s Columbus Day Parade has now been canceled Sunday due to the rain.

Parade officials tell News 8 that the due to the inclement weather, the parade scheduled for 1 p.m. has been canceled. The parade was supposed to close Dixwell Avenue from Connolly Parkway to Whitney Avenue until 4 p.m.

An official statement reads:

Unfortunately, due to the change in the weather forecast from 9AM (when the initial decision to move forward was made) and based on the recommendation of the Columbus Day Committee and our Guardian Chiefs that the Town err on the side of caution, the Columbus Day Parade has been cancelled.”

Parade officials did not say if the parade will be rescheduled or not.

News 8’s Meteorologist Sam Kantrow says that showers will continue through most of the day and that winds will pick up and gust to between 35 and 40 mph by Sunday afternoon.
