New Haven police calling for changes to realistic-looking paintball guns

(WTNH)–Senator Richard Blumenthal and New Haven police are calling for changes after some scary incidents involving paintball guns. Blumenthal says he’ll introduce legislation to make sure paintball guns don’t look so much like the real thing.

The announcement comes just after a warning from police about the use of paintball guns in gang turf wars around the city.

Police have said that some kind of change is needed.

“What we’re trying to do is save lives,” said Officer David Hartman. “We’re trying not to be the next national headline.”

Hartman pointed out how realistic the paintball guns look and added: “If someone were to point this gun at me as a police officer, or any other police officer, the result would obviously be tragic and fatal.”

Until legislation is passed, New Haven police are asking parents to make sure their children are not playing with paintball or BB guns that look too realistic.
