NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Yale University announced a plan Monday to demonstrate their commitment to building a more sustainable world.
According to the Yale University Sustainability Network, its new Yale Sustainability Plan 2025 has been developed after 18-months of input and discussion from the university community. The plan hopes to inspire beneficial connections of academic excellence with real-world challenges.
The creation of the sustainability network will use its expertise in both the humanities and sciences to ensure that all efforts inside and outside of the classroom lead to creative solutions, technologies, and best practices. This will ensure that their reach extends beyond the campus and impacts the local community as well as global communities
The sustainability plan 2025 is organized into nine ambitions, including:
- Health and well-being
- Climate action
- Built environment
Along with these outlined ambitions, the plan also has numerous goals and objectives which are believed to be attainable by 2025. University president, Peter Salovey, explains his high hopes for this plan and its impact on New Haven.
As we commemorate this tercentennial, it is extraordinary to consider what New Haven and Yale will be like three hundred years from now. This document—with its nine ambitions and nine-year time frame—is the first step of what we hope will be a remarkable journey.”
A defining aspect of this plan is its call for thinkers across multiple disciplines to connect on the subject of sustainability. For more information on this plan, please see their full write-up.
