Independent candidate Price drops out of U.S. Senate race

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Businessman John R. Price of Wallingford announces that he has dropped his 2016 senate bid.

Republican state Rep. Dan Carter of Bethel will have a clear shot at landing the Independent Party endorsement, following Price’s withdrawal.

However, a spokesperson from the Secretary of State’s Office says that although Price turned in paperwork to drop out of the race, his name was technically never on the ballot to begin with.

The Independent party endorsed two candidates, both Price and Carter. When this happens, neither candidate gets on the ballot. However, Carter is on the ballot because he is a Republican endorsed candidate.

Price took this situation to court, but the judge followed the rules and did not put his name on the ballot.

Price said he dropped out of the race after the Connecticut Supreme Court settled the nomination in Carter’s favor
