Officials identify one of the pilots in East Hartford plane crash

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Four federal law enforcement officials tell the New York Times that the FBI is investigating the plane crash in East Hartford as intentional.

Officials have identified the flight instructor injured in the crash as Arian Prevalla.

Those officials are speaking anonymously because of the ongoing investigation. The New York Times reporting that the sole survivor is telling investigators that this was no accident. The FAA and the NTSB are trying to figure out what happened.

Crews remain on the scene. Main Street remains closed. The Piper PA 34 aircraft on final approach to land at Brainard Airport airport. Instead of making it to the airport, the plane crashed in the 400 block of Main Street in East Hartford.

The aircraft missed a van with a mother and her children inside by inches, clipping an electrical pole, and cartwheeling down the street before coming to a complete stop. Investigators are currently trying to figure out the cause of the crash.

Police tell News 8 that two people where in the plane at the time of the crash. The student pilot died. The instructor was still at the hospital Wednesday morning.

Investigators are not saying who was in control of the plane at the time of the crash.
