NEW HAVEN, Conn (WTNH) — From leaky doorways letting heat escape, to switching out light bulbs to LEDS and CFL’s.
It was Debbie Carlson’s daughter who enlightened her to the idea of a home energy audit.
“As a homeowner and going throughout the home you can feeling drafts in certain areas, or where you are leaking cold and hot,” said Carlson.
It’s a program offered through Connecticut utility companies.
For 124 dollars a team from Solvit home solutions will come into your home to help cut down on energy waste.
“The bigger the reduction the better, so we go around and seal up the home with the caulk the foam the weather stripping,” said Amber Upson from SolvIt Home Services.
They will climb around your attic, and measure the amount of air, and at the end of the day “money” you’re loosing.
It can head straight out the window, or right down the drain.
‘We also install water saving measures as well, these water saving measures use less gallons per minutes,” said Upson.
If old equipment is the problem rebates are available to help absurd the cost.
“So the rebates are designed to reduce the cost of additional upgrades such as installation, windows, appliances and wi-fi thermostats and the financing may help make those upgrades more affordable,” said Elizabeth Murphy of United Illuminating.
Money well spent according to homeowner Debbie Carlson.
“It’s very hard to take care of some of these little tasks as far as winterizing doors and windows, so this is a great benefit,” said Carlson.
