Newington man arrested in drug bust

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Newington man was arrested in Hartford after investigators found him in possession of both drugs and weapons, police said.

During the month of October, the Hartford Police Department Vice and Narcotics Unit detectives conducted an investigation into alleged narcotics dealer Singh Harwinder. From this investigation, detectives were able to get an arrest warrant for Harwinder at his business called “The Mini mart” at 737 Maple Avenue, Hartford. On Thursday, the investigators received information that placed Singh in his car with a large amount of morphine and quinine.

With assistance from various Hartford officers, Harwinder was stopped in a parking lot on Maple Avenue where detectives found 501 grams of morphine and quinine as well as a Ruger .357 magnum revolver. After arresting Harwinder, investigators were able to carry out the search of the business on Maple Avenue seizing 20 Viagra pills and 89 herbal Viagra pills. The investigation also revealed that Harwinder stashed more morphine at 104 Whitewood Road in Newington. Investigators were able to find an additional 2,500 grams of morphine and quinine, a box of .357 and .38 caliber rounds, numerous packaging materials, and $6,964 in cash.

Harwinger was arrested on charges of illegal obtaining or supplying of a prescription drug.

No word on when he will appear in court.
