ORANGE, Conn. (WTNH) — Fifty-one percent of American adults say they want to lose weight, yet barely half of those people are doing anything about it. Losing those extra pounds can be hard. Thankfully, as Kori Kermashek knows well, a Connecticut gym has a unique program to help you get started.
“I think what contributed to my weight gain had to do with honestly laziness,” Kermashek recalled. “It’s easy to come home from work and sit and watch TV and not go back out to the gym.”
In the past year, Kermashek has dropped 25 pounds. She says much of her success is due in part to The Edge Fitness Weight Loss Challenge; an eigh-week team based approach to losing weight that involved bi-weekly weigh-ins, group workout, personal training sessions and more. One of the things Kermashek says kept her motivated throughout the 60 days were her teammates.
“Having that support, knowing you’re not alone and having everyone cheer you on is a huge part of the team,” she explained.
Kermashek’s team even pushed her to accomplish things she never thought she could.
“One thing my group did is we got together and ran a five mile race on the Fourth of July,” she explained.
Participants in The Edge Challenge have the chance of taking home a $5,000 grand prize, or $500 runner up prizes, but Kermashek says the competition is about so much more.
“It’s not about whether you win the contest or not,” she explained. “It’s about how you feel inside about yourself. I think everyone’s a winner the minute they step through those doors at The Edge.”
For Kermashek, her reward was priceless..
“I want to continue to better myself,” she said. “I feel strong. I feel great I am the healthiest I’ve been in years so overall it just makes you feel awesome.”
