NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — There was some extra encouragement for students at one New Haven school Monday morning. Leaders were there to greet kids getting off the bus at the Edgewood Magnet School.
It’s part of a two-year-old program called “Because You Matter.” It started with one school, then expanded because of the impact it made on one student in particular.
“He had trepidation about going to kindergarten, and when he got off the bus and there were a bunch of people who were excited and welcoming him. He just knew that the year was going to be a better year,” said State Sen. Gary Winfield, (D) New Haven.
State senator Gary Winfield says the “Because You Matter” tour goes to a different school every two weeks.
